A Personal Journey
Cancer. A diagnosis that evokes many emotions and that launches into a medical world that seeks to stop the disease in its tracks. Focusing on the disease can become consuming. I know. I have been there. As I journeyed through cancer, it was important for my well-being that I be seen as a whole person rather than to be defined as a disease. Others facing cancer desire the same thing. Moreover, no one wants to face cancer alone.
A New Vision for Cancer Care
My journey with cancer inspired my dream to create care that is more comprehensive for cancer patients and survivors. My vision was to provide a beautiful place where those facing cancer can come to have their entire beings cared for both during and after treatment.
My experience with cancer taught me the value and benefit of Complementary and Alternative (CAM) therapies for improved well-being.
The Dream is Realized
In 2015, the vision became a reality. Cashman Center launched its Living Well with Cancer program for adults offering a therapy group and an array of CAM therapies.
Therapies at Cashman Center supplement your medical treatment with body work and compassionate talk therapy which alleviates stress, increases resiliency, and improves your ability to cope.
Personalized Care
At our center, you will have a team of professionals knowledgeable in mental health and CAM therapies that can help to improve your quality of life as you go through cancer. From your one-to-one orientation to the program, to your individual assessment and treatment plan development, along with participation in a 12 week therapy group, we collaborate with you and your medical to design the best possible opportunity for you to live well.
The Team
Cashman Center providers are passionate professionals who care about your entire person as well as the impacts your diagnosis has on your family and loved ones.
We believe that everyone wants to live well during and after treatment for cancer. You are welcome here. We are honored to walk through your cancer journey with you.
A Lasting Legacy
We desire to make the program available to as many people as possible and have been honored to be named as the sole recipient of funds raised in memory of Justin Kukowski, a young man who bravely lived a full life as he faced cancer. Justin lost his life to cancer in 2007, yet his family and friends desire that his courage and determination in living well with cancer be remembered. They have continuously raised funds for cancer care in his memory.
Funds raised are managed through The Justin Kukowski Foundation which supports Cashman Center’s Living Well with Cancer program.
