Practicum Overview: Practicum students will have opportunities for clinical training, including diagnostic assessments, individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, psychological assessment (for doctoral-level students), case management, and consultation within a multidisciplinary team.  Based upon their clinical interests, students will be supported in developing a psychotherapy group and/or wellness seminar.  Practicum students will be exposed to a diverse range of presenting problems, consistent with training as a generalist practitioner, and will be permitted to specify preferences for cases, based upon their clinical interests.  Practicum students will also gain experiences specific to a group private practice (e.g. differential diagnosis, documentation standards, interfacing with insurance, consultation with internal and external providers).

Dates of Training:  The start date is set at August 15, 2018 through May 31, 2018.  End dates may be negotiable, based upon the trainee’s academic calendar. Please note that the start date is non-negotiable.

Supervision & Didactics Training: Trainees will be provided with one hour of individual supervision, one hour of group supervision, one hour of a didactic training, and one hour of case consult (with staff clinicians) per week.  As such, Wednesday mornings from 9 am to 1 pm are mandatory for the provision of group supervision and didactic training.

Candidate Qualifications:  Cashman Center has the potential to provide training for two doctoral-level and one social work student.  Ideal candidates for the practicum positions will have an expressed interest in holistic and integrative care, will have previous clinical experience (or a previous practicum), and will demonstrate openness towards the regular use of supervision, consultation, and a collaborative team approach.  In addition, we have a particular need for students interested in eating disorders and/or geriatric care. Additional integrative skills (e.g. yoga instructor training, mindfulness training, art therapy training, alternative healing modalities) are desirable, but not required.
